Prejuvenation: why younger clients are starting treatment earlier
"Prejuvenation" has become a popular term for a genuine shift: more people in their twenties and early thirties choosing preventative, lighter-touch treatment aimed at slowing visible signs of ageing, rather than waiting until later to correct them. It's worth understanding what this actually means, and where the line sits between a sensible early start and treatment that isn't yet necessary.
What prejuvenation actually means
The idea behind prejuvenation is straightforward: expression lines and structural changes in the skin become more difficult to soften once they're deeply set, so addressing them earlier and more gently can mean less intervention is needed later. In practice, this tends to look less like committing to a full aesthetics routine and more like supporting skin health early, sun protection, barrier support, and general skin condition, alongside occasional, minimal treatment where it's genuinely useful.
Why it's become more common
Part of this shift is simply more visibility. Younger people are more exposed than previous generations to what preventative skincare and treatment look like, through social media and wider public conversation, and are making informed choices earlier as a result. That's a reasonable, positive development. But it also means some of the pressure to start treatment earlier comes from trend and marketing rather than genuine skin need, which is worth being aware of before booking anything.
What a considered approach looks like
Not every early sign of ageing needs treatment, and not every younger client needs medical aesthetics at all. For many, the most useful starting point is genuinely just skin health, consistent sun protection, and barrier support, covered in our Skin Health guides, rather than injectable treatment. Where anti-wrinkle treatment or filler is genuinely appropriate earlier on, it tends to be used more sparingly and conservatively than at later stages, supporting rather than replacing a good skincare foundation.
A proper consultation is particularly important here, since the right advice for a twenty-five-year-old asking about prejuvenation is often "not yet, and here's what to focus on instead," rather than a treatment recommendation by default.
