Clinical facials vs high-street facials: what's the difference?
"Facial" covers a huge range of treatments, from a relaxing add-on at a beauty salon to a targeted, protocol-driven session at a skin clinic. Both have their place, but they're built around different goals, and it's worth knowing what actually separates them before choosing where to book.
What tends to differ
A high-street facial is often built around relaxation and a pleasant experience, using cosmetic-grade products designed to feel good rather than to produce a specific, measurable change in the skin. A clinical facial, by contrast, starts from a skin assessment and uses medical-grade, clinically validated formulations selected for their ability to deliver a measurable outcome, whether that's barrier repair, hydration balance, or reduced inflammation.
Time is treated differently too. At Level 7, appointments aren't scheduled back-to-back, which means there's space for the treatment itself to be delivered without being rushed, and room to adjust the plan on the day if your skin needs something slightly different to what was booked.
It's not about one being "better"
A relaxing, cosmetic facial is a genuinely good choice if what you want is an enjoyable, pampering experience, and there's nothing wrong with booking one for exactly that reason. A clinical facial is the better fit when the goal is a specific skin outcome, addressing barrier function, congestion, or long-term skin health, built around your skin's actual condition rather than a fixed treatment menu.
What this looks like at Level 7
Our facial treatments, the Clinical Dermaplane Facial and the Level 7 Skin Therapy Facial, along with the Hydro Facial, are each built around a specific clinical goal rather than a generic pampering format. Every one of them starts with the same consultation that shapes every other treatment plan at Level 7, so the facial you're offered is one that suits your skin specifically, not just the next slot in the diary.
Schedule a Free Consultation
Every treatment plan at Level 7 begins with a conversation.
Your complimentary 20 minute consultation gives us time to understand your skin in detail, its history, its current condition, and your goals. From there, we build a personalised treatment plan and protocol, structured around your skin and how it responds over time.
This is not a sales appointment. It is the clinical foundation for everything that follows.
