Why courses of treatment work better than one-off sessions
It's a fair question: if one session of microneedling stimulates collagen and starts the skin's repair process, why not just have one and see how it goes? The answer comes down to how skin actually rebuilds itself, and it's worth understanding before deciding how to approach treatment.
Results are built, not triggered
A single session creates controlled stimulation and starts a repair process, as covered in what microneedling actually does. But collagen remodelling is gradual. One session moves skin a small step forward. A course, with sessions spaced correctly (typically around four weeks apart, as we cover in how often to have microneedling), allows each step to build on the last, so the skin's structure keeps improving rather than reaching a single, modest plateau and stopping there.
This is why visible results tend to develop gradually across a course rather than immediately after one appointment. It's also why skin's response can vary session to session, some fluctuation in texture or sensitivity between treatments is a normal part of the skin adjusting and remodelling, not a sign that something's gone wrong.
Courses also allow the plan to adapt
Skin changes between sessions, in response to how it's healing, the season, stress, sleep, or hormonal shifts. A course structure means the plan can be reviewed and adjusted along the way rather than fixed from the outset. If skin is responding particularly well, or needs a gentler approach at a given stage, that can be factored in before the next session rather than only discovered afterwards.
What a course looks like at Level 7
A course is typically three microneedling sessions, spaced around four weeks apart, with a fourth session included as part of the course. This structure reflects how collagen remodelling actually works, it isn't simply a pricing incentive, though it does mean a course represents better value than the same number of sessions booked individually.
If you're only considering one session
A single session is still worthwhile, particularly as a way to try microneedling or address a specific short-term goal, and it's a perfectly reasonable place to start. But if the goal is meaningful, lasting change to skin texture, tone, or firmness, a course gives the skin what it actually needs to get there. This is something worth talking through at your consultation, where a plan can be built around what you're hoping to achieve.
